I had so much fun with the last capsule wardrobe that I decided to make up another one but this time using golds, browns, and hints of green. I also wanted to make use of a lot of texture - fuzzy wools, smooth rayons, the rough texture of straw braid and the smoothness Bakelite beads. Combined I hoped to create a capsule wardrobe for autumn that held both visual and textural interest.
To assemble this capsule wardrobe I used a brown wool 1940s skirt suit, a rayon dress I made a very long time ago, a rich yellow wool 1940s suit jacket with leopard printed collar, a buttery yellow rayon skirt suit with short sleeve, a blouse and an assortment of accessories - hats, brooches, and necklaces. Each piece could be mixed and matched with the other to create a variety of looks to suit the changing weather this area is prone too. Warm woolen suits for the chill and a light rayon suit for the warmer days. In total these are the pieces I used for the capsule wardrobe
1 brown wool skirt suit
1 yellow skirt suit
1 blouse
1 yellow wool jacket with leopard print collar
1 rayon printed dress
1 pair gloves
2 hats
1 pair of brown suede heels
1 green hand bag (not pictured)
assorted accessories
For the first look, I chose the dress which actually inspired the whole color palate. It had brown, yellow, and hints of green. When I made the dress, I trimmed it in cream eyelet. With it for this look, I chose the brown wool suit jacket, a green straw hat, yellow gloves and the brown suede heels.
The next look used the rayon dress yet again but this time paired with yellow. The short sleeved rayon suit jacket paired really well with the printed dress and green straw hat.
Another look using the short-sleeved blazer was with a blouse underneath and with the matching yellow skirt. With it, the brown wool tilt hat. In the course of the day if it got too warm, off goes the jacket to reveal the cream cotton blouse.
Well, there you have it, another capsule wardrobe with a color palate inspired by the season and one that uses texture for added interest. I hope that this helps inspire you when you go to build or update your own capsule wardrobe.
