Blue and Brown

Blue and brown, two colors that I think go well together when the textures work although I think a fur coat just goes with everything . . .This look is really all about the coat, my first ever 1940s teddy coat. But first, the suit. The suit underneath is a navy blue late 1940s suit with this amazing decorative button detail on the peplum. underneath that is a beaded blouse from FabGabs Vintage.

Now to the coat! I was shopping at a local charity shop with my aunt when we saw it. I thought it was a great 1940s looking coat and also much too small for me. My aunt persuaded I try it on to make sure and I was so glad that I did. It actually fit! The price was a bargain and since the proceeds went to charity, so why not buy it. The shop workers also wanted me to buy it because the style was so old that they thought no one else would want it. They wanted it sold. At that moment, I thought I had acquired a beautiful and very heavy faux fur coat from the 1940s (and yes, faux fur did exist even way back then).  Little did I know what I really had.

Once I got home, I took the time to really, really study it which included peeking behind a few loose stitches, something I would not do to a piece unless I owned it.  The coat was heavy, but it was a fur I was not familiar with at all, so I didn't think it was real. After investigating, I realized I had purchased a 1940s teddy coat! So, what is a teddy coat? A teddy coat is a coat that has a very dense texture and pile that resembles a, you guessed it, a teddy bear. considered a trendy item at the time, they were a combination of the practical and fashionable.
