Vintage Style Work Wear

I had a request for some vintage style casual or work wear. Since I actually work as a farmer in my real life, I am very familiar with work wear. For me, my work wear follows a super simple formula - trousers, a blouse and a sweater. My trousers are made by me because it's the best bang for my buck. Due to the nature of my work, clothes get ripped, dirtied, and damaged regularly and have a high turnover. True vintage jeans would be ruined here, and I would feel terrible about that. Same goes with blouses and shirts. I do wear the occasional vintage sweater though if I am doing light office work but, for in the field, something that has that vintage look but is actually modern.

For working on the farm, I use an early 1940s pattern for my trousers that have that ultra casual wide legged look. I like to work with denim when I can but as of late, I have found the denim in fabric stores to be of a really poor, thin, quality. Bummer. I have also made my trousers from wool material and cotton canvas. If it looks durable, I will use it. For my blouses, I like a nice fun printed cotton blouse, those too I make myself from an assortment of 1940s and 1950s patterns. Right now, I cannot call my blouses all that fun or pretty though. My latest run of blouses was made using some scrap material in some really ugly colors because that was all I had readily available. I am hoping to wear them out double time quick and replaced them with something actually cute and pretty.

For hair, I usually do not set my hair for work because the sweat and grime would make my hair flat and erase any sort of style. What I like to do is tie my hair up in a scarf or turban. If I am working in the office, I will usually set my hair and slap on some lipstick for the fun of it. Sometimes I will wear a snood if I am feeling up to it and know it will not get too dirty.

When I'm working, I seldom ever get photos, so I don't have too many examples of that for you, sorry! What I do have are these taken over a period of a few years. I can tell you though that what I am photographed wearing in these is a very good idea of what I wear in my daily life on the farm. Simple, easy, causal, and comfortable.
