My Charcuterie Christmas Tree

One thing that I have really wanted to do for a long time is make a charcuterie Christmas tree just like in the old home entertaining books and magazines. When I was hosting a gathering, I took the opportunity to make one. I had to! I just had to! To make this edible wonder come to life, I took a foam base and covered it in kale, cheese, peperoni, olives, and green bell pepper cut onto snowflake shapes. Then around the base I added extra cheese squares and pepperoni. I was going to add crackers around the base, but I forgot all about them. No matter though, I doubt anyone even noticed.

That charcuterie tree was actually really difficult to make! To start, I did not buy enough kale to cover my base, so I ended up cutting it in half. What you see is the top half that I had enough kale to cover so that's what I used. Then it was making the kale stay in place. I used toothpicks but the kale kept flopping off. How I managed I'm not sure. I tried to arrange the cheese and pepperoni into a pattern but the base was too small for that, so I just stuck them on. If I do this again, I know to allow much more time to do this. I made this in about an hour but could have used twice that . . and twice the kale too.
